And the band played on.

September 8, 2010

This past weekend I experienced my very first tailgate.  A good friend took me to her alma mater (University of Notre Dame at South Bend, Indiana) for a party-in-a-parking-lot that I’ll not forget in a hurry.  I’d never even heard of the phrase “tailgate” before this, let alone experience first-hand the family- and not-so-family-friendly fun that occurs.  It was a cultural experience, let me tell you. One of the coolest things, though, was observing the sheer number of people getting into the spirit of the game and supporting the players.  No one ever came to watch my college badminton matches, let alone throw a massive party outside the courts.  It was all so hyperbolic!  The school band played, as they always do.  This band is massive.  (Again, we never even got a CD played at our matches…) And they are pretty damn skilled; and they sure get the crowd going.  These are photos I took while the 2010 new band members were being introduced to the fans, ahead of their call to arms for the match. Fighting Irish!
